Early Modern Debts stimulated rigorous interdisciplinary work on debt and credit in early modern culture. Calling on the expertise of international scholars in economic and social history, legal studies, philosophy and literature, it addressed the relationship between general theories of debt and particular experiences or operations of debt, and explored how different sorts of credit interacted in early modern Europe.
